Journal
August 2017The Barracuda had been becoming increasing difficult to start over the last couple years. I always figured it was due to the fact that it gets driven fairly rarely, and that it needed to be cranked for a while to get gas to the carburetor. This year, that "hard to start" problem had only gotten worse.Well, for the first time ever, the car left me stranded. I went for a joy ride and to fill up the tank, and after filling it up, it refused to start. A couple good samaritans tried to help me jump the car, but it still wouldn't start, so I knew it wasn't the battery. It was just turning over way too slowly. So, the car was once again trailered to the same shop I used in June. Within 24 hours they had replaced the starter and holy cow - it now lights up almost instantly! The car has never started this quickly and easily. It's funny how you get used to the quirks of your car. The starter was original to the car, so it had been doing its job for 50 years. I knew it wasn't as strong as it should be, but I didn't realize just how poorly it was turning the engine over. No more endless cranking and hoping! |
